Well, if you're reading this, it means you're at least a little bit curious about this site. So thank you!

This blog was born out of a passion for craft beer and all things related to brewing. I've been a huge fan of craft beer for a long time now...come to think of it, I've always gravitated towards brands and flavours of beer that were not considered "the norm." Not only were the names and looks of the brands of beer more interesting, but the actual beer itself was always more unique, distinct, and in most cases...better. There's also a lot to be said for the independent craft brewer who is taking the time and energy, and putting the hard work and money into a product. That, to me, is significantly more attractive as a beer drinker than a few bottles out of an assembly line of millions that all taste exactly the same and are basically available everywhere you go. A big part of enjoying craft beer is trying the different tastes and types that come out of whatever region you have to be in at the time.

Now, don't get me wrong. I realize that some craft beers are being produced in much larger quantities than they were even just a few years ago. You know what? I'm okay with that. It means that as a society, our tastes are changing, evolving...getting better. More people are enjoying great craft beer, and that makes me happy for a few reasons. One of those reasons (and a rather selfish one), is that I'm able to actually talk about beer in social circles without seeming like a "beer weirdo" (a beerdo?).

I've been talking about making a beer blog for a few years now. Once I started getting into home brewing with a few friends, I knew it was just a matter of time. I'm not a certified "beer expert" or an official judge or anything like that - but I feel confident in saying that I've tried enough different beers, and my taste buds are fairly attenuated that I can offer a reasonably accurate opinion on different beers. And in the end, it's just one person's opinion - so you have the opportunity to take it with a grain of salt, as the old saying goes. In addition to my beer reviews, I will also share my experiences thus far with home brewing. From documenting the brewing process, to showing how I set up different types of brewing gear (and by this I mean my brewing pals, who are far more skilled at this stuff), to sharing my experiences at various beer-related events and festivals, my goal is to simply inform, and hopefully entertain you with my occasional dose of shrewd humour (something I'm rather proud of).

What you won't find here is the air of arrogance that can sometimes be associated with craft beer, and brewing in general. Brewing is about community: hand-crafting a wonderful product, and sharing it with friends, families & colleagues. It's not about mocking someone who doesn't know the term for how a particular beer tastes, hasn't tried the latest IPA, or who doesn't remember the name of a part they need to build a keg fridge. How it ever got that way in some circles (and trust me, it is) is beyond me. In my opinion, doing so entirely misses the point of sharing a good beer over laughs with a few friends.

So, welcome! Enjoy your time here, feel free to leave comments, and don't be afraid to engage with me on the blog or on any of the social feeds associated with this site (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Google+, for the record). I hope you find some kind of value in the information I'm providing, and if you like it, share it among friends - like you would with any great beer.
